To define a distinct and memorable brand voice, we needed to craft a cohesive sound identity that truly resonates with the essence of Wiener Linien. This involved not only creating the sound identity itself but also identifying and strategically mapping every possible application—ensuring consistency and impact across all touchpoints.
We engaged key decision-makers and important user groups to build alignment and ensure the sound identity would be both authentic and impactful. Drawing inspiration from Johann Strauss’s iconic Donauwalzer, we developed a unique sound identity that captures the essence of Vienna. To select the voice that would represent this identity, we held a public vote in which over 20,000 Viennese residents participated, choosing between the two top candidates.
The language used in announcements became more considerate and friendly, contributing to a more positive passenger experience. A post-implementation survey showed increased passenger satisfaction and improved wayfinding. Additionally, the sound marketing campaign achieved top international awards in every competition it entered, showcasing its excellence on a global stage.
