Over more than a decade, Sound Strategy ))) developed and evolved the audible system of Wiener Linien across voice, announcements, gongs, functional sounds, and passenger interactions.

THE CHALLENGE
Many audible moments. One system.
Public transport depends on sound for information, orientation, action, and reassurance.
Yet announcements, voices, signals, interfaces, technologies, and operational requirements can easily develop independently.
The challenge was not simply to create distinctive sounds. It was to make those elements work together across a complex transport system.
THE RESPONSE
Build relationships, not isolated sounds.
The work established a coherent architecture across voice, announcements, gongs, and functional sounds.
A distinctive sonic language was developed with reference to Vienna, including musical material inspired by the Donauwalzer. More than 20,000 people participated in the public selection of the new announcement voice.
Language, voice, and functional sound were then developed as parts of the same passenger experience rather than as separate communication assets.
THE EVIDENCE
A system that holds over time.
Internal passenger-satisfaction reporting on announcements increased from 66 to 79 per cent before and after deployment.
That result should be presented as evidence within a wider service system, not as proof that sound alone caused the change.
The work has also received multiple international awards.
